Report a user, room, message, post, or group
If you see something that breaks the Community Guidelines, report it. Every report is reviewed by a person, and you are told what happened.
What you can report
- A user: open their profile and use the menu.
- A post: use the menu on the post and choose Report post. To report the account instead, choose Report user.
- A room: use the room menu while you are in it.
- A message in a room: press and hold the message.
- A direct message: press and hold the message and choose Report message.
- A group or a Moment: use the menu on the group or the Moment.
Report the thing, not the person. Reporting a specific message or room gives a reviewer far more to work with than reporting a profile.
What happens next
1. Your report is attached to a case for that incident. Forty reports of the same room produce one case, so mass reporting does not multiply consequences and a single credible report is never outranked by a coordinated one.
2. A member of the moderation team reviews the case, including the content itself and, for a room report, the two minutes of room audio before your report.
3. You are told the outcome in the app and by email: either we found a breach of the guidelines and took action, or we reviewed it and did not find a breach this time. We do not share what action was taken against another account or for how long. That detail belongs to them.
Reporting is confidential. The person you reported is not told who reported them.
Reports in live rooms
When you report what was said in a live room, Chatter captures the two minutes of audio leading up to your report so that a reviewer can hear what actually happened. It is retained only as long as the review takes, and deleted if no violation is found. Rooms are only captured when Moments are enabled for the room.
False reports
Deliberately reporting content or people that you know do not break the guidelines, or organizing others to mass-report someone, is itself a violation.
If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
