Verification
Verification signals authenticity and builds trust, giving others more confidence to connect and interact with you.
Our ID verification process focuses on ensuring that a real person with valid identification is the owner of the account. Please note that verification does not mean an endorsement from Chatter nor an indicator of an account holder’s importance.
Chatter Pro subscribers who have completed their free trial period can apply for a verified badge. Verification is subject to approval based on identity verification.
Note: The legacy verification will be replaced by this new ID verification in October 2025, and accounts that were verified in Chatter V1 under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic) will not retain the verified badge unless they are subscribed to Chatter Pro and apply for ID verification. Chatter Pro subscribers will need to meet the eligibility criteria below to receive or retain the verified badge.
Prepare for verification
- Subscribe to Chatter Pro.
- Connect your Stripe account.
- Complete your free trial (7 days for monthly plan or 14 days for yearly plan) of Chatter Pro.
- Make sure your first name and last name on your Chatter profile match the name on your government-issued ID. If your name on Chatter does not match the name on your ID, mention that in the video you record.
- If you have any emojis or extra spaces in your first name or last name, remove them before applying for verification.
- Take a photo of your government-issued ID card, driver license or passport. Don't crop the photo or censor anything in the photo. It should be an unedited photo of your ID.
- Record a video of yourself saying: My name is (your full name) and I am recording this video for Chatter verification.
Apply for verification
- Open the Chatter app on the same phone you used to take the photo and record the video.
- Tap on your profile picture at the top right of the home screen to open your profile.
- Shake your phone to bring up the new ticket screen. A screenshot of your profile will automatically be attached when you shake your phone. Don't remove that screenshot.
- Tap on Ticket type and select Contact support.
- Type Verification in the title. Type the word Verification only.
- In the Description, type why you want to be verified on Chatter and any other additional information you want to provide to help us with the verification process.
- Tap on the + button on the right side of your profile screenshot and select Pick from gallery.
- Tap on the photo of your ID that you captured.
- Tap on the + button on the right side of your ID photo and select Pick from gallery.
- Tap on the video you recorded and tap on Choose.
- Tap on Submit.
Our team will review your application and get back to you within 7 days. The verified badge will appear on your profile once our team reviews your application and determines it meets the requirements.
The information submitted for verification is only used to verify your identity and will not be visible on your Chatter profile. The ID photo and video will be deleted after the verification process in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Eligibility criteria for verification
- Only accounts actively subscribed to Chatter Pro are eligible to receive the verified badge.
Our team uses eligibility criteria on when the verified badge is given to ensure we maintain the integrity of the platform. Your account must meet the following criteria to receive or retain the verified badge:
Your account must have first name, last name, profile picture and bio.
Your account must have no signs of being misleading or deceptive.
Your account must have no signs of engaging in platform manipulation or spam.
- To minimize confusion and promote integrity on the platform, changes to your first name or last name will result in a temporary loss of the verified badge. You can contact support to restore your verified badge.
- If you cancel your Chatter Pro subscription or if your Chatter Pro subscription expires due to a billing issue, your verified badge will be removed. You can contact support to restore your verified badge after resubscribing to Chatter Pro.
- Any violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, manipulation of our processes, or circumvention of enforcement actions may result in the loss of the verified badge or in certain instances, suspension or ban.
How we protect your personal information
- We use Shake for the in-app support ticket system. Shake is 100% hosted on Amazon Web Services, a world leader in compliance with the latest security best practices, including Privacy Shield. All your data is in Amazon’s private data center in Frankfurt, Germany, European Union eu-central-1.
- Your data in transit is encrypted using secure TLS cryptographic protocols. It’s then stored in PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch on AWS Elastic Block Store disks, both of which are encrypted at rest using AES with a 256-bit key.
- Shake implements comprehensive Data Processing Agreement in compliance with GDPR. These agreements outline their commitment to protecting personal data, detailing processing responsibilities, and more.
